A New York man collapsed from a heart attack after a wayward tire hit his truck Saturday on Interstate 81.

A 62-year-old man from Whitney Point, N.Y., was treated at a hospital, according to Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg. Police did not release the name of the man, the hospital or the time.

A front tire came off a southbound tractor trailer near Exit 16 (U.S. 30), police said. The tire bounced across the median and hit the Chevrolet pickup truck from Whitney Point, N.Y., and its trailer. The tire bounded back to the southbound side and hit a Toyota Prius, driven by a 31-year-old woman from Morgantown, W. Va. The 34-year-old driver of the Freightliner tractor trailer pulled safely onto the left shoulder of the southbound side of I-81. There were no injuries in the crash.

The man who had been driving the pickup truck tried for about 10 minutes to pry away his damaged fender from his tire, police said.
